Vuori review: the brand's bestsellers tried and tested

From silky soft leggings to luxe athleisure, these are the Vuori pieces worth adding to your cart

If you're more a leggings and sports bra than jeans and a nice top gal then you most likely have California-cool activewear brand Vuori on your fitness wear radar. If not, where have you been? And please allow me to introduce you...

Shop Vuori

Yet another import from across the pond, Vuori was founded back in 2014 for men (gasp), with founder Joe Kudla wanting to fill a luxe male activewear-shaped hole in the market.

Now, thankfully, the brand makes a huge range of premium performance apparel for both men and women and is loved by the likes of Harry Styles, Anna Kendrick and Gwyneth Paltrow (and now, WH).

The brand is inspired by that outdoorsy Californian vibe we can only dream of in the grey UK, and this comes through in its calming colour palette (think muted lilacs, soft olive greens and grey marl), gym-ready co-ords, lightweight running pieces, design-forward cuts and cashmere-soft athleisure.

When I think of Vuori what springs to mind is gorgeous, streamlined silhouettes, super-soft fabrics and handy rip-out labels that ensure no annoying itching or bunching (I know this sounds minor, but seriously, it's a game-changer).

I believe a great fitness wardrobe has its foundations in comfort, colours you can easily mix and match and, of course, performance. There are few activewear lines that tick all these boxes at once, but after trying (and loving) a handful of Vuori pieces I thought the brand might be onto something, so I decided to put all its bestsellers to the test — and let's just say, I was not disappointed.

From barre to barbells and Pilates to pounding pavements, I put the brand's bestsellers through their paces. Here's what I made of them:

The title for best Vuori leggings is hotly contested (and of course entirely depends on what you’re doing), but I think the AllTheFeels Legging have just taken the top spot for me.

Made from the brand's new BlissBlend material, they're available in three lengths and five colours (including black), and are so soft and gorgeous to put on, they make you want to work out more.

These leggings manage to hug and sculpt your figure while feeling light as air — quite a feat — and impose no restriction whatsoever; you can move to your heart's content. They have the big, wide waistband we’ve come to expect from the best high-waisted leggings but with a twist — the brands signature hip pocket is seamlessly integrated into the left side.

The AllTheFeels Bra is similarly soft and beautiful, with a simple, narrow racerback for full range of motion. There aren't cups or padding in the bra, which I tend to prefer, but it is double-lined so not too nippy.

It's supremely comfortable and the scooped neck means it pairs well with most workout tops. This is definitely a yoga/barre/Pilates/lounging bra at most; it's certainly not designed for high-impact exercise.

Fans of longline sports bras look away (or scroll down to the best Vuori crop tops), because the dinky Daily Bra is made for gals who like a bit of midriff on show. Made from smooth airbrushed material, this medium-impact bra has a flattering low-scooped back (great for mobility) and inserts over the bust (as quite a nippy gal I appreciate this).

The under band is about an inch thick and it makes for a lovely everyday bra too. I've worn it running and felt well-supported, but I think bustier women would need something more heavy-duty for anything high-intensity.

I was initially sceptical of the tie waist on Vuori's Daily Legging, assuming it would dig in, plus I love a smooth, fuss-free legging. The drawstring runs through the middle of the high, wide waistband, but on the digging-in front there were no issues — it's mounted on the outside of the waistband so doesn’t transfer through to the inside much, but if you're on your belly a lot during yoga it could become annoying. I'm not sure what it brings technically to the garment as the leggings stay up without tying the drawstring, so it feels like more of an aesthetics preference than anything else.

Drawstring aside, I was pleasantly surprised by these and have been wearing them most days (as the name suggests). They're made of the same soft material as the bra and have jogger-like cuffs which keep the leggings in place.

They're lovely to move in, holding you in a comforting way that doesn't cut in at any point, and they're totally opaque — trust me, I did a lot of very low squatting in front of a mirror to confirm this. It's worth noting these don't have pockets, but Vuori makes a version that do.

The Vuori Evolve Bra might be my favourite sports bra from the brand. There's something about a square neck that's universally flattering, in my opinion, and helps you feel supported and held in while working out.

This one is also soft and silky — it basically glides on — and offers good support and coverage over the bust, so you can wear it on its own, but the cups are removable too. The Evolve set was the first thing I ever tried from Vuori, so I've had this bra a while and the shape and quality of the fabric have not changed at all, despite many washes.

The Evolve Leggings are silky smooth, seamless, and feel premium to wear. The grippy (and huge) high waistband holds you in and is made up of four panels, rather than the standard two, which gives a sculpted look.

I loved the lack of hem at the bottom, ensuring there's no digging in around the ankle and adding to that fluid silhouette. They are stretchy but I prefer them as a gym legging rather than for yoga as they’re not quite as flexible as the Daily Legging or AllTheFeels Legging. They're also completely opaque and have a slight sheen that makes you feel classy AF.

The Vuori Dune Bikini Top is also brilliant and features that signature square neckline that does not budge as you dive in. Get the matching bottoms here.

I'm fairly certain that hybrid working has boosted the jogger market no end (I can't be the only one wearing them during endless Zoom calls, right?) and luckily Vuori makes some great pairs. More smooth and lightweight than terry cotton (but still cosy), my favourites are the Boyfriend Jogger, which I basically wear everyday (I had to buy a second pair because it was getting kind of gross).

Made from Vuori's 'dreamknit' fabric, they're so soft (are you seeing a pattern here?), with a flattering drape and looser fit but with no excess fabric — the cut is superb — making them a decent yoga or stretching companion.

The drawstring is on the inside which makes for a more put together look if you're popping out, there's a handy pocket on each side and deep squats are very much on the menu as they're completely unrestrictive.

They're my new chuck-on bottoms post cold water swim and also a great lounging pant. However, I wouldn't tumble dry these for fear of pilling — I've only air dried them and so far, so good.

The Performance Jogger is similarly soft, to the point you'd be forgiven for not wanting to work out in them (and I’ll admit they’ve been a frequent rest day friend), but the cropped fit, cuffed bottoms and tapered leg make them better suited for movement, particularly as they're very stretchy.

You can loosen or tighten the waist but I didn't find this was necessary — the joggers sit just above the hips (and stay there) without cutting in at all. The pockets are useful but not particularly deep — my phone did fall out sometimes when I sat.

Not a fan of the cropped style? They also come in a longer length.

Vuori makes loungewear that's as at home in the studio as on the sofa — and I've even worn the Studio Flares to work. Speaking of, I'm a little bit in love with these trouser/legging hybrids. They hug your thighs, have bum-sculpting seam placement at the back and a useful pocket on the waistband.

They have the perfect amount of flare to remain practical and stop from straying into OTT territory and perform well during dance, barre and yoga — I was surprised how little they fell down, even in three-legged dog.

I have the earlier version of the Halo Performance Hoodie 2.0, so can only assume the updated one is even better — we're talking stretchy, sweat-wicking and the perfect length to throw over leggings. It also dries super fast — sadly I know this because I got caught in a downpour while wearing it. It's also a brilliant running layer when the temperature drops.

I realise I'm straying somewhat out of activewear here, but the Sedona Polo deserves a mention too. The boxy fit, dropped shoulders and raw hem that rolls up slightly in a chic, off-duty way all add up to a comfortable layer you can throw on post-class and instantly look put together and ready for the rest of your day. The low neck does mean you need a lower cut sports bra or top underneath if you don’t want it to show through.

The best workout crop tops can also be worn as sports bras, and thankfully it seems the good people at Vuori got the memo on this one. I've basically lived in the Halo Performance Crop this summer — be that at the studio, WFH or travelling (take off your layers and it's the perfect top once you arrive out the chilly plane and at your sunny destination).

It's particularly brilliant for Pilates or yoga inversions where you don't want loads of fabric hanging around and still need to be able to fully twist, and offers decent support thanks to double layering around the bust and a supportive inner band that's invisible from the outside. It's soft and stretchy, the straps don't dig in and the longline style meets the top of most leggings for a seamless look.

The Daily Crop is essentially a combination of the Daily Bra and Halo Performance Crop, taking the features of the former and length of the latter. It feels thicker than the Halo and is double-layered across the bust with removable cups.

The inner band can be seen from the outside in some of the lighter colours (I have the white) and didn't lie flat on me, but perhaps I should have sized up. The low back makes for great range of motion and the fabric allows you to bend freely, with no restriction around the torso. I feel it's more suited to high-impact exercise (I wear this for running and tennis) than the Daily Bra, as the longer cut gives more support.

No fitness wardrobe is complete without two types of shorts: lightweight runners and cycling-style numbers. The Clementine 2.0 are the lightest running shorts I've ever worn, and had me begging this dismal summer weather to warm up so I could use them more.

They come fitted with a mesh brief liner that's soft and breathable, the ruched waist is comfortable, split seams aid movement and there's handy zipped pocket for keys. A truly brilliant pair of no-distraction running shorts.

Designed for yoga, the Studio Pocket Short also stands up well during spin, as well as other studio-based classes (think barre, Pilates). Soft and comfortable, they do not budge around the waist but I did have to readjust on the thighs a couple of times, which is pretty standard for cycling-style shorts without grips.

There are drop-in pockets on each thigh and a hidden waistband pocket ideal for a bank card or key. They are a bit shorter than I'm used to in a biker-style short, but are pleasingly stretchy, can move as far as you can, and yes, they passed my humiliating mirror squat test.

In case I hadn't already made it clear: I adore this brand. Everything is so thoughtfully designed, incredibly comfy and performs well, all while looking great. It's easy to mix and match across the collection thanks to the coordinating colours and consistent use of dreamy fabrics.

The only drawback? It's not the cheapest. However, the clothing is such great quality and gorgeous to wear that I think it's worth it. You're less likely to need to repurchase (all the pieces I've tested — some over a year old — look good as new multiple washes and wears later) so in the long run Vuori works out better for the planet and your wallet.

Vuori clothing ships from the USA and usually takes about a week to arrive at a UK address.

Shipping to the UK is free for orders over £150. Otherwise, the shipping costs depend on the weight of the package, but for a pair of leggings it costs £10 for Express Air Courier.

Via the brand's online store, or they have a cute boutique in Covent Garden, London.

A smaller selection of the brand's activewear is also stocked at Selfridges, Cotswold Outdoor and The Sports Edit.
